Root Cutting is often the fix for a blocked drain

Once roots have been discovered growing in the drains (using CCTV drain camera) they need to be dealt with. There are three tools at our disposal, the flow-shaft with cutting teeth on the chains which flail away at the roots. If roots are growing into the drains it means that the seal on the connections has been compromised, so if the roots are simply cut away they will eventually grow back thus root cutting is usually a temporary solution, unless the tree is dead or is to be felled. After root cutting procedure is complete Drain Ace can repair the damaged drain. This can be done internally with a patch liner or the section of drain can be dug up and replaced.

Root Cutting in Drains

Tree roots are a major cause of blocked drains. If there is a connection in the underground drain that isn’t properly sealed, tree roots will detect the fault and send in fibrous roots to feed on the nutrients and water. What may start as a 1mm gap in the seal of the drain could end up as 1” parting after a few years of the tree roots growing in there.

2, Re-line the damaged section of Drain from inside with resin-bonded patch lining. The latest technology in patch lining is often the go-to method for all drainage contractors these days.

External factors such as tree roots can work their way into the drain causing serious obstruction and can displace the joints and in some cases cause the drain to collapse.
